River Irthing
3 Tokens
Brown Trout, Grayling
Wading Difficulty 2
One kilometre of left bank fishing
RIVER IRTHING: This beat covers the last 1km of the river Irthing before it runs into the river Eden just below Warwick Bridge. Despite being a good beat it is not heavily fished, so there should be some very good sport with brown trout as well as plenty of grayling.
STOCKS: This part of the river is not as well fished as the main river Eden so exact details of stock numbers are not so detailed but it is known to have a good head of trout and grayling.
ACCESS AND DIRECTIONS: Heading north along the M6 towards Carlisle, pull off at junction 43 and take the right turn round the roundabout along the A69. Continue along this road for around 4.5km and over Warwick Bridge, then approximately 200m after this take the next left turn towards Newby East.
Continue on this road for 1km until you reach Newby Bridge, park just past the bridge by the ‘Go Wild’ parking sign on the left and fish downstream from the bridge on the left hand bank. To access this, walk back over the bridge and enter through the gate, the token box is located just inside the gate here, where you will also see the Beat End sign.
This length of river extends for over 1km through three fields and finishes about 20m above the Irthing’s confluence with the Eden. There is a Beat Start sign located on the first set of small trees on the main river stem. The beat also gets progressively more open as you progress downstream so there is plenty of room here for some decent fly casting practice.
